Ionomidotis irregularis likes the Eastern part of North America.
This is the asexual form of Ionomidotis irregularis. Sexual state is a irregular black cup with a brown under-surface. Oftentimes these two states are found growing at the same time. This observation was growing from a well rotted and wet hardwood log in summer. A saprobe, it helps decay, while consuming, woody forest debris. Difficult to identify when only found in the asexual state, like here. Took me 17 years to put a name on this blob of a fungus.
