The genus Russula is a large and diverse group of mushrooms belonging to the family Russulaceae. These mushrooms are known for their brittle, crumbly texture and their often brightly colored caps. Common in temperate and montane woodlands. Mycorrhizal; forming symbiotic relationships with a variety of trees, conifers and hardwoods. Grow from soil. Attached gills. Spore print can be white to yellow to orange-ish. Note taste and smell. Trees, too.
