Ramaria stricta is widespread in the Northern Hemisphere.
This fungus plays an important role in the ecosystem by helping to break down dead wood on the forest floor. Its habit of growing on wood is unique among coral mushrooms (along with Artomyces pyxidatus), as most others grow from the soil. Has upright branches that are white to a tan/brown color. Spore print is cinnamon to ochre (orangish). Our Indiana collections belong to a group of mushrooms very similar to the true R. stricta.
The collection above has been given the temporary code Ramaria “stricta-IN02”. The true species may not occur in Indiana.
