Purpureodiscus subisabellinus

Purpureodiscus subisabellinus is found in North America and Europe.

Order Pezizales. Images represent two collections of Purpureodiscus cf. subisabellinus made 10 years apart – both in the month of May. Beautiful burgundy coloration of the inner cup surface. Under-surface color is light burgundy to pinkish-white; sometimes with small dots the same color as the inner cup; can be flocculose, with wooly, cotton like hairs. Thick interior context is white. Very fragile, breaking easily, Growing from hardwood.

DNA analysis was unsuccessful in matching these collections to any other sequences. It may be something other than the European described P. subisabellinus.
