Mycena acicula is reported from around the world.
Mycena acicula is a small mushroom with a conical to bell-shaped cap that typically measures less that 1cm in diameter. The cap is initially smooth and pruinose (covered in a fine powder), but it soon becomes smooth and often striated. The cap color is often bright orange to reddish-orange, but it can also be yellow or pale orange towards the margin.
The stem is slender and fibrous, and it measures 1-6 cm tall. The stem is typically yellow or orange, but it can also be white or pale gray at the base; hollow.
Gills are attached to the stem and run down it slightly. The gills are pale yellow to white, with a whitish edge. Spore print white.
Mycena acicula is a saprotrophic fungus, meaning that it feeds on dead organic matter. It is commonly found in deciduous and coniferous woodlands. It is often found growing with mosses.
