Ganoderma sessile loves the eastern half of the United States; sparsely scattered elsewhere.
- The fruiting body is typically 5-15 cm wide and 2-5 cm thick, but can be up to 30 cm wide and 10 cm thick. It is kidney-shaped to semicircular, and is often attached to the substrate by a broad base. The upper surface is reddish-brown to orangish-red, and is often varnished or shellacked (laccate). The margin is whitish, and the underside is covered with a layer of pores. The pores are small and round; 5-7 per mm.
