Russula katarinae is probably widespread in Eastern North America.
Note cap shape variation. Color can vary from bright yellow, orange and red, sometimes with a combination of these. Cap cuticle peels easily 3/4 the way up the cap. Gills are white when young, creamy yellow at maturity; close to distant in spacing. Fishy odor; taste not remarkable. Seems to like pine, as most images of the species have pine needles laying about.
