World wide in warm climates.

This collection of Tramella fuciformis was posted to iNaturalist and sequenced at Mycota. Although I’m sure he has had more interesting sequences since then, back in 2019 Stephen Russell had these observations and thought provoking comments:
“Could be the most interesting DNA sequence I ever looked at. Amplified three different fungi, but I was able to parse out all three. The first was the target – Tremella fusciformis. But it also had a 100% match to Dutch Elm Disease (Ophiostoma) and a 95% match to species in the genus Sporothrix. It is a group of soil fungi with some known pathogens. In addition, Sporothrix is probably widely associated with Jelly fungi, as there is another example of a Sporothrix sequence being misnamed as Phaeotremella. But why are any of these other fungi hitching a ride on Tremella fusciformis, which itself is a parasite on Annulohypoxylon[?]”

Here is a collection by John Plischke showing Sporothrix cf. epigloea infecting Tremella fuciformis at iNaturalist.
